My Routine: Night

Ah the nightly routine. We spend years perfecting it and sometimes loath having to do it at the end of a busy day. But, I usually always give in because I know sleeping with my makeup is a huge nono and my skin will thank me in the morning for going through the cleansing motions the night before. After years of trying to perfect what works best for me, I have come to the realization that the simpler, the better.

My favourite tip, I double cleanse my face. Double cleanse? Why would you do that you ask? Won’t that dry out your face? Actually it’s quite the opposite. Any day I am wearing makeup (which is most days) I will first remove any eye makeup with a makeup remover, (right now its Garnier's Micellar water, helps the lashes grow too!) then cleanse my face with Dove soap. I have been using a Dove bar (for sensitive skin, the green label) since I was in high school. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry, it full cleanses my face of my makeup, is hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. Plus I just bought a pack of 8 bars for $10. I always, always, always do this step for 2 main reasons. The first is that I am super OCD and need to make sure my face has no makeup left on it. The second is so my cleanser (what I use next) can properly clean my face and pores as opposed to just washing off a layer of makeup. That way it can properly penetrate into my pores and truly cleanse my skin. My cleanser of choice for the past little while has been Murad’s Clarifying Cleanser.

This is the only Murad product in my current routine, and I use this in the morning and at night. Sephora’s description of the product claims that it strips away pore clogging grime, oil and irritants while salicylic acid provides a sustained release of medication for hours of acne treatment. And oh boy does it do just that. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean without that weird tight feeling.

After cleansing I apply my current fave moisturizer, Philosophy’s “Breathe” Oil Free Oxygenating Gel Cream. Guys. This cream is literally gold in a bottle. It’s probably the priciest thing in my skin care routine but so worth it. Because my skin is more combination, dryer in the winter yet somewhat still oily on my Tzone, this cream helps even out my skin tone, hydrates it and gives it that dewy fresh feeling.

The last thing I know will help me wake up with good skin...a good night’s sleep!!!
