Hi guys! Today I wanted to talk about an area that unfortunately tends to get neglected (I myself am guilty of this as well!) I am a huge fan of skincare (obv) and taking excellent care of the skin on my face, however, we should always, always, ALWAYS, be dragging the excess of our products or putting even more product on our neck! Are you noticing more lines on your neck than usual? Do they look kind of deep set and you can’t wash them away? Then congratulations! You have neck lines! But fear not, I am here to help you fade and treat them!
Let’s discuss why neck lines occur. From my research I have found that there can be a multitude of reasons. Some of the most common ones are:
-Aging, as the skin on your neck is super thin and will be one of the first places to show aging (lol great)
-Genetics
-How we move and sleep, as the more we engage in activities that lead to the folding of the skin, the earlier lines and wrinkles will start to set in (this includes how long we spend looking at our phones every day!)
-Sun damage
-Smoking
-Skin tone
It goes without saying that we need to be constantly protecting our necks and the decollage area (right above your chest) so always bring your products down to that level. There are specific creams and serums for your neck and decollage, I have yet to dabble in these but I am looking to buy one to try.
So let’s get to the good part, treatment! How do you reverse the damage or fade the lines? Through my research I have not found any 100% guaranteed ways of removing the lines. Fillers seemed to do the job somewhat but this is really risky since the skin is so thin on your neck and it could lead to clumping (yikes). Through my own trial and error, I have found a few things that have helped diminish the lines and now they look quite a bit lighter and not so deep set. Here are the methods I have tried and have worked:
1. Constantly moisturizing your neck area. I do this with a really intensive body moisturizer that contains shea butter. I found being consistent with this really helped. I take really hot showers so it’s important I make sure this area is hydrated.
2. Drink a lot of water (this should already be a part of your routine anyway)
3. I have used mineral clay masks and hydrating masks on my neck, to clean and tighten the area
4. Use a Vitamin C serum (Inky List makes a good one)
5. Use a retinoid (Inky List makes a good one)
Major fixes I found made the most difference:
6. I saw this is on YouTube but I must caution anyone who tries this to be very, very careful. I took my derma roller (the tool that has the little spikes in it) and would roll over my lines very lightly, then applied an anti-aging serum followed by my thick moisturizer. Please go slow with this method. If you have never used a derma roller before, I would do some research beforehand so you do this properly because you could realllllly hurt yourself if you do this willy nilly.
Results: After doing this 1-2 times a week for about a month I noticed a gradual lightening of the lines and they were less visible.
7. Using @theordinary Buffet! This is a thick serum I also use on my face. The serum is a multi-peptide serum hyaluronic acid, amino acids and bio-derivatives amongst other amazing ingredients to target multiple signs of aging. I first used this on my fine lines on my forehead and they are barely there anymore so I thought, hey why not try this on my neck, and guys, its so great! I do this more often than the derma roller because its less invasive and its really helped fade the lines.
